OSF would like to give special
recognition and thanks to the Steiner Foundation
for their annual yearly scholarship
award to an Oroville High School graduate.
David and Patricia Steiner established The Steiner Foundation, a private foundation
located in Gig Harbor, Washington, in 1999. One of its pursuits is to support higher
education. Along with the customary criteria of GPA, character, and integrity, the
scholarship committee has to consider these specifications: 1. awarded to a student
majoring in science or mathematics (STEM) and 2. attendance at a traditional four year
college or university. Since 2000 it has awarded scholarships to Okanogan County
seniors continuing their post-secondary education in STEM related studies.

2024 Annual Scholarship Brief Histories
Mel built a legacy of appreciation for the beauty and utility of
mathematics during his 30 years of teaching in Oroville. His
lifelong passion for building included everything from carpentry
to electronics. This scholarship commemorates his appreciation
for those willing to learn and work hard to build the future.
This
memorial scholarship was established in 2016 as a tribute to
DeeLoris Sylvester who was a teacher and coach in Oroville for
many years. She was committed to her students both in and out of
the classroom. Her belief in the importance of an education
carried on with her involvement as a longtime member of the
Oroville Scholarship Foundation and builds upon her legacy by
helping students succeed.
Harold Jensen, Jr., teacher at Oroville High School from 1989 to 2018, helped shape many lives through his teaching, coaching, and volunteering at OHS. He was most passionate about art and track and encouraged his students to look for opportunities to expand their horizons. Harold dedicated his life to supporting kids. This annual award is a testament today of that passion and commitment to students and community.
